About Laura Edgar

Laura has more than 20 years of experience working with mission-driven organizations across Canada, and has completed over 300 projects with more than 125 Boards of Directors of not for profit and other public purpose organizations – including national, provincial and local not for profits and charities, associations, and self-regulatory bodies.
Previously, Laura was the Vice President – Board Governance with the Institute on Governance (IOG), where she led the IOG’s work with Boards of Directors of public purpose organizations. Most of the client work Laura provided while at the IOG included governance reviews, governance change implementation support, facilitation of Board retreats, Board training, and strategic planning. She also conducted client commissioned research on current and emerging issues, including case studies and literatures reviews on conflict of interest, the Board’s role in member relations, amalgamations and shared service arrangements, Board composition, Board succession planning and more.
Prior to joining the Institute, she was the Programs Coordinator at the Institute for Leadership Development, where she led several programs for young professionals and young entrepreneurs. Her responsibilities included program management, liaising with Canadian and international partner organizations, and organizing training programs. She also spent a number of years teaching English as a second language overseas, including two years in Japan and two years in Guinea-Bissau.
Laura Edgar has completed an M.A. in Economics at the University of Guelph, and also holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from Wilfrid Laurier University and a Certificate in Intercultural Communication from the University of British Columbia.
Laura is currently the Chair of the Board of Parkinson Canada.
